Cougar Vineyard & Winery became a bonded winery in 2004 followed by purchasing the Temecula Valley Wine Country property in 2005 and finally opened its doors to the public after the 2006 crush. The owners of Cougar Vineyard & Winery in Temecula, California are a husband and wife wine making team. Cougar Vineyard & Winery was created with the thought in mind “we want a winery that we want to visit all the time” and thus the winery was born.The environment at Cougar Vineyard & Winery is friendly, the staff is knowledgeable and the winemakers are accessible, and they love interacting with their customers to ensure that they experience the true essence of great wine tasting. At Cougar Vineyard & Winery you are surrounded by wine and the wine making process, which not only lets you sample delicious wines but also learn and appreciate how great wine is created in the Temecula Valley Wine Country.

Cougar Vineyard & Winery is also one of the best and newest boutique wineries located on the “De Portola Wine Trail” in beautiful Southern California Temecula Valley Wine Country. Cougar Vineyard & Winery got its start:

Cougar Vineyard & Winery is not the first home winery venture of the owners, in fact, they began making wine over 17 years ago in Texas. They started producing wine using kits; but making good wine in an 85 degree room wasn’t easy. Even though the conditions weren’t optimum for wine making, the owners managed to pull off some drinkable wine. They originally bottled under the Ironstone Winery label.

However, they began producing some very good red wines and finally some white wines that were of very good taste and quality. They even entered and won 3rd place for their Semillon in 1998. After that, they began to bottle under the Cougar Mountain Winery label.

Finally, they moved to Fallbrook California which is just due South of the beautiful Temecula Valley Wine Country. One of the conditions of the house they were searching for was that it had to have at least an acre that could be planted with a vineyard or have an existing vineyard. Seven years in the home and they have planted 1000 vines. Along the Italian theme of the Sangiovese and Montepulciano they have planted Malbec, Cabernet Sauvignon, Syrah and table grapes (for eating). In 2003 they won a Bronze in the Orange County Fair for their Sauvignon Blanc. Currently, they now bottle under the Cougar Vineyard & Winery label.

Cougar Vineyard & Winery grows all Italian varietals including some that are not available anywhere else in the United States or rarely produced commercially, which means you, the customer, can experience wine indulgences at a beautiful location close to home. Temecula Wine Country, one hour from San Diego, Orange County and Los Angeles is a convenient and inspiring place for corporate meeting and retreats. Ponte Winery has been serving the corporate world since its opening in 2003.

Dining

A top-50 restaurant for outdoor dining in the US, our restaurant serves a wide selection of Farmers' Market salads, grape-wood fired pizzas, fresh pasta dishes, natural beef, sustainable seafood and homemade desserts, and a full-selection of our wines.

We are very busy on the weekends so please make a reservation by phone or online.

Our outdoor dining area is located behind the Tasting Room and is surrounded by gardens and vineyards. Enter through the Tasting Room, or after 5 pm, through the gazebo entrance next door. Unless the weather is extreme we dine outdoors, so please dress accordingly.

If you plan on arriving by limo or bus on the weekends, you will need a seperate Limo Reservation Confirmation. No limos are allowed (even with a reservation) after 12 pm on Saturdays and Sundays.

The Winery

Nestled in the rolling hills of the beautiful Temecula Wine Valley, Danza del Sol Winery is a thirty-five acre estate winery located in Southern California’s Wine Country. While Danza del Sol’s tasting room officially opened in February 2010, the winery itself already has a remarkable history. The estate was previously owned by Dr. William Filsinger and his late wife Katharine who provided Temecula Wine Valley with exceptional wines for nearly 30 years. Twenty-five acres are planted with the following varietals: Gewurztraminer, Sauivignon Blanc, Viognier, Cabernet Sauvignon, Zinfandel, Cab Franc, Tempranillo, Petite Verdot and Merlot. In the wake of Dr. Filsinger’s well deserved retirement, the estate was purchased by wine enthusiast Robert Olson.

While we are thrilled to introduce our new Danza del Sol wines, we will continue to support the Filsinger brand wines. Danza del Sol is dedicated to producing premium varietal and proprietary blended wines that are sure to exceed your expectations. Meet Our Winemaker

Our Winemaker, Mike Tingley, has thirty years of experience in Temecula Valley wine country. He is a Professional member of the American Society of Viticulture and Enology. As well as being an experienced wine judge, his wines have won numerous Gold, Best of Region and Best of Competition awards over the years.

Mike was guest lecturer in Professor Donald Sutton's "Microbiology for the Food Industry" class at California State University Fullerton for twenty years. He also teaches the "Winemaking Behind the Scenes" class for the Business of Wine program at the San Diego State University.

The vision for the Danza del Sol wines, says Mike is, "To craft varietal wines and innovative blends that not only are delicious, but have an identity.

History of the winery

Masía de Yabar is a young winery in Temecula. The owner has gained exclusive wine experience in the beautiful wine fields of Argentina. Originally from Perú with ancestors from Spain, it is no wonder the wine making is in the blood. It has been a life long dream to open a winery in picturesque Temecula Wine Country.

Masía de Yabar meaning

“La Masía,” roughly translated, means: Manor House. But it is more than just a house in the country. Masía’s began to spring up in the Catalan region of Spain at the end of the 16th Century with the demise of the feudal system. They were often built of stone and later in the New World of Adobe.

In a sense, they were self contained economic centers which included living quarters for the extended families, shelter for farm animals, as well as black smith facilities to manufacture items needed for the ranch.

In modern times The Masía connotes the good life where everyone is welcome!

Viñas de Yabar.
San Juan - Argentina

Viticulture is considered the mother industry in San Juan’s economy. Its origins date back to the XIX century, when wine was made according to the Spanish and Italian traditions and techniques. Therefore, it was a regular inexpensive wine for popular consumption. However, in the last few decades, a reconversion of this industry in the province has occurred and many of the most important wineries are producing fine wines for domestic consumption and exportation.

Tulum Valley is south of San Juan’s province, one of the most important appellations of Argentina. Abundant sunny days and thermal amplitude favor a good maturity, concentration of aromas, and color of the berry.

Its alluvial sandy and clayish permeable soils are ideal for the practice of viticulture. Due to the low rainfall regime, irrigation is necessary. Water comes from meltdown of the snow-capped Andes Mountains, descending in the shape of rivers which turn into channels.

The Yabar and Flores SRL finca or vineyard is located in the Tulum Valley, the grapes that have best adapted to the area are: Malbec, Syrah, Cabernet Sauvignon, Tempranillo, among others.

Argentinean Malbec has become known worldwide and has been awarded well-deserved medals in enological contests. Originally grown in Southeast of France, this grape has turned into the premier wine from Argentina. It acquires different features according to the weather and soil condition where it is grown.

In the Tulum Valley it reaches its highest development and produces wines of pleasant taste, medium body with certain earthy notes and an intense purple color.

What's New At Oak Mountain Winery?

Steve and Valerie are at Oak Mountain almost every weekend pouring wine. Sometimes you can talk our winemaker Steve into doing a barrel sample. Our friendly staff can not only help you with your wine needs but also with local accommodations.

Come visit us seven days a week to taste our award winning wines and picnic in our Vista Pavilion. Our barrel room is open daily from 11:00am to 5:00pm. Oak Mountain winery has a commanding view of surrounding hillsides of vineyards and beautiful mountains. The facility will also be blessed with an underground cave cellar. The Andrews expect that both the Oak Mountain Winery and the Temecula Hills Winery will produce 6500 cases this year.

At Robert Renzoni Winery and Vineyards we believe the best way to truly experience our commitment to quality is to take a guided tour of our Temecula winery and estate.

When visiting our Temecula winery, we invite our guests to take a short walk up the hill directly behind the winery to a scenic overlook of the estate and sweeping views of the land encompassing the Temecula Valley Appellation*. At certain times in the harvest and production cycle, block grape sampling or other unique activities are incorporated into your Robert Renzoni experience. As tours bring you through natural vineyard terrain and into our active winery, comfortable shoes are recommended.

The standard Robert Renzoni Winery tasting fee is $12 per person; or $15 for our premium tasting. Our premium tasting includes a crystal souvenir glass. All available Robert Renzoni vintages are limited in quantity, but feel free to inquire with our winery staff if you are interested in a particular vintage.

Until our Tuscan Villa tasting room is completed in 2012, our tasting room is comfortably housed in the Robert Renzoni Winery. Private tastings are available by appointment only, so please email us if you prefer a private tasting.

How to know when it's time to change your pool filter media

"When should I change my pool filter media?"

If you've not heard the term Filter Media before, I apologize; it may be more of an Industry term for the material used inside the filter tank to trap the dirt.

For swimming pool filters, we have 3 types of Filter Media: Sand, Cartridges or Grids. Over time, all of these filter media types will need to be replaced.

Here's how to know when that time will be.

Lifespan of Filter Media Types:

Under Normal conditions, for well-maintained pools, Undersized filter systems or poor water balance can strain your filter media. In fact, the large range for cartridge filter replacement depends on how well sized the pool filter is. Larger pool filters, with more filter surface area, require less cleaning and changing of the media.

Pool Filter Sand: 7-10 years
Pool DE grids: 7-10 years
Pool cartridge: 2-5 years

Signs that your Filter Media may need to be replaced:

Filter requires more frequent backwashing or filter cleanings
Increased filter runs required for clear pool water
Reduced water clarity and sparkle
Dirt or DE powder coming back into the pool
Filter clogs easily, often during vacuuming
Skimmer suction is not as strong as before
Difficulty maintaining water balance or an algae free pool

How to inspect your Filter Media and evaluate it:

For sand filters, it's hard to inspect the filter sand, because you will need to remove the top dome, with the special wrench, or you may need to cut pipes to remove a top mounted multiport valve. But if you were to inspect your sand filter sand bed, here's how I do it.

After draining the filter tank and gaining access from the top, reach into the sand with your hands (Side mount tanks: move the baffle to one side, out of your way). Run your hands through the top few inches and see how many "mudballs" you come up with (ewww!). Then, run deeper, looking for calcification of the sand, or hardened areas. Although rare, try to spot any channeling of the sand. Inspect the sand under a magnifying glass, if you want to really geek out, sharper edges are good, rounded edges are what happens to worn out filter sand.

If you are thinking about changing your own pool filter sand, it's not so hard to do. We did a video last spring on how to change pool filter sand.
Cartridge filter elements, get inspected everytime you clean it, right? It's impossible to see the clogging of the pores inside of a cartridge filter; they clog over time, with small minerals and oils. Most filter cartridges are spun Reemay, a type of polyester, and the fibers do a great job of trapping micro-particles, while allowing water to pass through. Over time however, and the fibers loosen, trapping dirt deeper inside, where you can't get to it with your garden hose, or allowing dirt to bypass the cartridge and return to the pool.

Each time you clean a cartridge pool filter, it loses a bit of efficacy, or water filtering ability. The cleanings will become more frequent, and then you may have trouble keeping the water clear, and then comes an algae attack that you can't seem to kill completely. All signs that you need to change your filter cartridges. Even though they aren't cracked, or split, or completely falling apart, they can be doing only half the work of when they were new.

Generally speaking, inspecting a cartridge filter won't tell you if you need to replace it, but paying attention to these other things will. If you are having no water problems at all, and you only need to clean the cartridge(s) every month or two, then you're probably OK for now.

Are you afraid of the dentist? If so, you are not alone! In studies conducted by the American Association of Endodontists, approximately 80 percent of Americans are afraid of the dentist. And anywhere from five to 10 percent of those people are so afraid that they avoid dental visits altogether.

Forgoing dental treatment means cavities, lost teeth, altered appearance, and more serious afflictions like gum disease (which is linked to heart disease, strokes and diabetes). With statistics this staggering, Rodeo Dental and Orthodontics long ago recognized the need to prioritize alleviating dental fears through its use of sedation dentistry and a warm and caring staff.

Is sedation right for you? In one study, 90 percent of fearful patients reported more comfort and less fear with the use of sedation. Dr. Robin Bethell, a practitioner at the office, has seen success with his patients.

"Dental phobia is the biggest obstacle for patients when it comes to oral health," he said. "Oral Sedation gives patients a way to combat fear and anxiety when completing dental procedures, and can be the difference between an anxious, stressful dental experience and a comfortable, pleasant one."

Sedation can be as simple as nitrous oxide (commonly known as laughing gas) or an oral sedation pill, or can be done via a technique called IV sedation, which leaves the patient fully conscious but deeply relaxed and unconcerned about the appointment. Sedation can even be used for simple activities like a basic cleaning, so don't be afraid to ask!

"Oral sedation in dentistry isn't really that new," Dr. Bethell says. "Valium (diazepam) and Versed (midazolam) have been used in medicine and dentistry for decades; however, not many dental practices were properly equipped and trained to use them. Educational advancements in dentistry and improved health monitoring technology have made oral sedation safer, and thus more widely available. This is helping to destroy the old views of 'scary' dental experiences."

There are two physical activity guidelines in the Unites States. The first, the Surgeon General's Report on Physical Activity and Health, is a lifestyle recommendation. That is, you can modify it to fit into your daily routine and activities of daily living. The recommendation is that all adults should accumulate 30 minutes of moderate-intensity activity on most, if not all days of the week. The key words are "accumulate" and "moderate-intensity." Accumulate means that you can do 10-15 minutes at a time and repeat that a couple of times throughout the day; for example, 10 minutes in the morning, 10 minutes at lunch, and 10 minutes around dinner. Moderate intensity is equivalent to feeling "warm and slightly out of breath" when you do it. Recently there has been some controversy about the effectiveness of this guideline and its benefits. At the moment the recommendation stands, but we may hear more about it in the not-too-distant future.

The second recommendation is from the American College of Sports Medicine. The ACSM recommends 20-60 minutes of continuous aerobic activity (biking, walking, jogging, dancing, swimming, etc.) three to five times a week, at 60%-90% of maximum heart rate, and two to three days of resistance training. This is a more formal, "workout" recommendation, although you can also accumulate the more intense workout in bouts of 10-15 minutes throughout the day if you like. Follow this recommendation and your fitness and your health will improve.

The year Teri Smith turned 40, she decided it was time to tackle a nagging urge to get in shape. That's when she signed up for her first fitness boot camp class.

"I didn't have any energy and I could feel my age creeping up on me," says the Pembroke Pines., Fla., mother of two. Her weight had crept up, too. Though she wasn't heavy, the 20 pounds she'd added over the years didn't feel comfortable on her 5-foot, 3-inch frame.

A successful graphic designer, Smith had never felt as comfortable in sneakers as she did in front of her Macintosh. "I didn't have the confidence" to exercise, she says, because she always felt uncoordinated.

But when her stylist suggested she try the boot camp fitness class, she worked up the nerve to do it. And she's never looked back.

"No other workout makes me feel so good. It makes me feel like I really kicked my butt," says Smith, 42, a faithful boot camper for 2 1/2 years now.

She is now one of the fastest runners in the class, and is once again happy with the way she looks. "It took 12 weeks, but I lost 25 pounds," says Smith.

What Is a Fitness Boot Camp?

Boot camp exercise classes vary in style, depending on the teacher. But you can generally expect to meet outside, rain or shine. You'll probably spend an hour doing some form of cardiovascular exercise (running, hiking, interval training, or obstacle course challenges), along with strength elements (using dumbbells, exercise bands, or the resistance of your own body weight). You'll also work on flexibility in a stretch portion of the class, which may incorporate elements of yoga or Pilates.

The fitness boot camp class Smith attends in Weston, Fla., is taught by ex-college football player and fitness coach Tom Rayhill. Rayhill's boot camp is offered three times a day, seven days a week, year round. People can pay daily, weekly, or monthly and come as often as they like.

These cracks can start out looking like tiny nicks, but can grow into larger fissures or even splits that span the entire windshield. Small Chip, Potentially Huge Issue

Driving around with a chip in your windshield could prove dangerous to your life. Any shifts in temperature, whether from the outside or the inside, could cause the chip to spread into a crack. If it is cold outside, the window will also be cold or even frozen. Turning on your heater will warm the inside of the window quickly. This rapid temperature shift could be too much for the little crack and cause it to split.

High winds are another problem. The high air pressure caused by wind blowing against the glass can cause the crack to expand even further. Driving at a high speed can also mimic the effect of wind. If you drive on the highway or go quickly on any type of road, you may find that tiny crack getting larger.â¨â¨

With its earthy, comfortable, and warm dining area — think dark shabby chic wooden chairs and a gold and rust color scheme — the Traveller’s Cafe offers an eclectic menu of appetizers, salads and soups, burgers and sandwiches, and carefully chosen entrees with a distinctly multinational flair.

Where else in Temecula can one find Korean-style Bulgogi Tacos, Mediterranean Salad (Greece), a Country Fair Burger straight out of the American South, and an Argentinean Bistro Steak all on one menu?

Nowhere else but right here.

You can’t go wrong with any of their selections, but next time you’re in, try the Roasted Jalapeno Corn Fritters (crispy on the outside, slightly sweet and fluffy on the inside); the Korean Mandu (pan-seared handmade dumplings); Crab Cakes (so delicate, moist, and velvety they almost melt in your mouth); or the fantastic Bulgogi Tacos (ribeye slices wrapped in corn tortillas with kimchi).

Second Taste of Temecula Valley

The second Taste of Temecula Valley will feature food, but also live music, as it raises money for schools.

The event’s entertainment committee has announced its entertainment lineup for the April 28 event It will raise money for the nonprofit Temecula Valley Foundation for Excellence in Education.

Proceeds will benefit the more than 30,000 students in the Temecula Valley Unified School District. The goal is to provide additional funding for programs in the arts, sciences and technology.

People can enjoy wine, food, and unique, wine-themed arts and crafts, as well as live performances on two stages by local and nationally-known musicians. The following entertainers are confirmed, but subject to change.

Student performers from Chaparral, Great Oak, and Temecula Valley high schools

The Brewer Boys, an alternative bluegrass/pop/country duo. Temecula brothers Justin, 18, and Nathan, 14, were featured on the 2011 season of “The X Factor” television singing competition. They appeared on the first live show and were in the Top 17 in the group category.

Ranch Rockers, with special guest Stephanie Basurto, will play country.

Midnight Ride, a rock and top 40 cover band

Mark Sage and his band

The event will be in Old Town Temecula at the Town Square in front of Temecula City Hall. It is scheduled for 11 a.m. to 10 p.m. Admission will be $10 per person for those 13 and older.

Children 12 and under are free.
